Jal Mahal

Description

Jal means water in the Indian language Hindi and Mahal, a palace. The Jal Mahal is a splendid palace built at the center of the Man Sagar Lake. The palace stands glittering with five floors, four of which remain under water.

History

Maharaja Madho Singh I build the Jal Mahal to serve as a lodge for his duck hunting parties. The Mahal is a proof to the bond that was established between the Rajput’s and Mughal Empire. The architecture of the palace has the affinity of both types of construction. Many generations of Maharajas upgraded the beauty of the palace. As an example, Maharaja Jai Singh II added to the beauty of the palace by making gardens to make the Jal Mahal more picturesque. After generations of creativity, we at the present-day have the magnificence of the “water palace.”
